2007 Canadian 50-Cent Holiday Ornaments Lenticular Coin

The Royal Canadian Mint's first ever lenticular coin is showcased by a large brass plated 50-cent coin containing a coloured image of Christmas tree ornaments in a "3D" motion-filled effect. The captivating image is surrounded by a brilliant uncirculated finish on an outer ring displaying the denomination, date and country of origin, while the obverse features a specimen finish

Design

As the long nights of winter descend upon Canada, the landscape brightens with the beauty of the season the bright, rich colours of Christmas decorations. When the first Europeans arrived here, they used dried fruit and evergreen boughs to decorate their homesteads, but these natural embellishments slowly gave way to coloured glass ornaments imported from Europe. 

Later, electric lights enhanced the soft glow of candles and the unique interplay between light and glass created a magical scene to captivate people of all ages. As it turns out, winter's doldrums are not always so dull. One almost has to welcome the darkness it's the perfect canvas to showcase the beauty of the Season in all its glory.
