Imagine seeing a spiky Edmontonia longiceps moving towards you. Or, watching Pachyrhinosaurus canadensis charge headlong at a rival. Or, coming face-to-face with a hungry Albertosaurus sarcophagus. Our Dinosaurs of Canada set is your gateway to a Late Cretaceous Canada, home to prehistoric wonders of all shapes and sizes! Tucked inside an exhibit-ready pop-up folder, these special-themed coins feature three different dinosaurs that were discovered in Canada—the proof is in their names!

Features

OUT OF THE PRESENT AND INTO THE PAST! Introducing a fun set of special-themed 25-cent coins that celebrate Canada’s prehistoric past. The three coins are only available as part of this set.
A FUN JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY! Each design is a surprise encounter with a dinosaur in its natural habitat. It’s a fascinating look at what Late Cretaceous Canada looked like c. 72-68 million years ago.

Design

Albertosaurus sarcophagus
The reverse image by Canadian artist Julius Csotonyi features a three-quarter view of Albertosaurus sarcophagus (72-68 Ma). Rushing towards the viewer, the tyrannosaurid is open-mouthed to allow a view of its sharp, serrated teeth. The engraved carnivore is bursting out of a prehistoric forest dominated by Metasequoia conifers and Osmunda-type ferns. Engraved along the rim are the words “CANADA”, the face value “25 CENTS”, the species name “ALBERTOSAURUS SARCOPHAGUS” and the year “2019”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Pachyrhinosaurus canadensis
The reverse image by Canadian artist Julius Csotonyi features a three-quarter view of Pachyrhinosaurus canadensis (72.2-71.2 Ma). Seemingly charging headlong at the viewer, the ceratopsid is shown with its head lowered to place emphasis on its frill and nasal boss. To the left of the engraved herbivore is a lake setting, where the sunset is reflected on the water. Engraved along the rim are the words “CANADA”, the face value “25 CENTS”, the species name “PACHYRHINOSAURUS CANADENSIS” and the year “2019”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Edmontonia longiceps
The reverse image by Canadian artist Julius Csotonyi features a three-quarter view of Edmontonia longiceps (71.5-71 Ma). The nodosaurid is shown lumbering towards the viewer with its natural armour of spikes and bony plates prominently displayed. At its feet, Erlingdorfia leaves litter the wet ground. Engraved along the rim are the words “CANADA”, the face value “25 CENTS”, the species name “EDMONTONIA LONGICEPS” and the year “2019”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
