1998 (1908-) Canadian 5-Coin Proof 90th Anniversary of the Mint Set

Struck to commemorate the opening of the Mint on January 2, 1908, the specimen sets were the first numismatic products to be offered by the Royal Mint, Ottawa. They were presented in a handsome red leather box stamped with these words in gold lettering: "First Coinage of Canada/1908/Royal Mint Ottawa". In 1998, to commemorate the ninetieth anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mint, the Mint's master engravers have reproduced the original 1908 designs with a mirror-like proof finish. The observe of each coin bears the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by artist Dora de Pédery-Hunt.
