1995 Canadian $1 Hudson's Bay Company 325th Anniv Proof Silver Dollar Coin

The 1995 Canadian Proof Silver Dollar marks the 325th anniversary of the founding of the Hudson's Bay Company. Its journey begins with the adventurous coureurs des bois Medard Chouart and Pierre-Esprit Radisson who led a trading expedition from England to the New World via Hudson Bay in 1668.

Further to the success of this venture, King Charles II granted a Royal Charter to the Governor and the Company of Adventurers of England, which became the Hudson's Bay Company. The charter was signed on May 2, 1670, in London, England. Today, it is preserved in the Company's Corporate Head Office in Toronto.

Design

The design on the reverse, by Canadian artist Vincent McIndoe, depicts Medard Chouart (the Sieur des Groseilliers) and Pierre-Esprit Radisson, explorers and pioneers of the Company, the ship Nonsuch that brought the traders to the shores of Hudson Bay, and Charles Fort, the original trading post which was later renamed Rupert's House.

1995 Canadian $1 Hudson's Bay Company 325th Anniv Proof Silver Dollar Coin comes encapsulated in Royal Canadian Mint black clamshell case, outer sleeve and special Mint insert (Certificate of Authenticity).
