1947 MAPLE LEAF Canada $1 Voyageurs Silver Dollar Coin ICCS Graded VF-20

One Dollar - 80% Silver - George VI (1947 - 1952)

1947 (No Maple Leaf) '7' Varieties

These coin issues by the Royal Canadian Mint come with two styles of 7 in the date. One is a rather tall figure, the lower tail pointing back to the right (POINTED 7); and the other is a shorter 7 with the lower tail pointing almost straight down (BLUNT 7). Both 7s were also used for the maple leaf issue struck in 1948.

Obverse

Coin depicts the design of King George VI with the Latin inscription:
GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX meaning "George VI, by the grace of God, the King."

Reverse

Features a modern design by sculptor Emanuel Hahn, showing an Indian and a voyageur, a travelling agent for a fur company, paddling a canoe by an islet on which therer are two wind-swept trees. In the canoe are bundles of goods; the bundle at the right has HB, representing the Hudson's Bay Company. The vertical lines in the background represet the northern lights.
