2010 (1910-) Canadian $1 Navy 100th Anniversary Loonie Dollar Coin (Brilliant Uncirculated)

A serviceman with the 1910 uniform and a female officer with a modern day uniform, to represent the men and women in the Naval service. The ship represented is HMCS Halifax, the lead ship in the Navy’s current fleet. The fouled anchor is part of the centennial identifier image in use to recognize the 100th anniversary of the Navy. Twin date at the bottom.

Design

The obverse design features a bust image of Queen Elizabeth II and the phrase "ELIZABETH II D.G. REGINA". The official Royal Canadian Mint privy mark resides just below the bust. In June 2003, the Government of Canada announced that an updated effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II would appear on all Canadian circulation coins in honour of the 50th anniversary of the Queen's coronation. This design is the work of artist Susanna Blunt, whose prior experience with Buckingham Palace included painting a portrait of Prince Edward.

The reverse of this coin, designed by Nova Scotia artist Bonnie Ross, features a Halifax-class Frigate flanked by a 1910 naval serviceman and a contemporary female naval officer.  An anchor at the top of the design symbolizes Canada's naval service.  Ms. Ross is an accomplished artist who has designed several Royal Canadian Mint collector coins, including the Three-Masted Ship and Brigantine coins from the 2005-2007 Fine Silver Tall Ships series.
