The 1987–1997 Canadian Loon Dollar was issued to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the first issue of the loon dollar. This coin, with proof-like uncirculated quality finish, issue was released only within the 1997 Oh Canada! Coin Gift Set.

Design

Canadian artist Jean-Luc Grondin chose to portray the loon in that dramatic moment of simple primitive power just before flight.
