Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Isolation of Nickel (1751 - 1951)

As Canada is the world's largest single producer of nickel, it seemed appropriate to issue a bicentennial commemorative coin and in the denomination traditional composed of the element - the 5-cent piece.   

 

Obverse

Coin depicts the design of King George VI with the Latin inscription:
GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX meaning "George VI, by the grace of God, the King".

 

Reverse

The design was chosen from entries submitted to the Mint in an open competition, the first of its type in Canada. The winning the design depicts a nickel refinery, with low buildings flanking a smoke stack in the centre. 

 

Packaging

Roll includes 40 coins of 1951 (1751-) Canadian 5-Cent Nickel Isolation Bicentennial in circulated condition.
