1943 TOMBAC Canadian 5-Cent Victory Coin Roll (Circulated)

Large 5 Cents - George VI - Victory (1943 - 1945)

Both obverses (round and 12-sided issues) have a bare-headed portrait of the King. Entirely cut by hand by the Royal Canadian Mint's Master Engraver, the 'Victory' design was introduced with the aim of furthering the war effort. The torch and V symbolize sacrifice and victory (the roman numeral V also indicates the coins denomination, the idea originating from the US Liberty 5 cents from 1883 - 1912. Instead of rim denticles is a dot-dash pattern forming the International code message, "We win when we work willingly."

Obverse

Coin depicts the design of King George VI with the Latin inscription:
GEORGIVS VI D:G:REX ET IND:IMP meaning "George V, by the grace of God, the King and Emperor of India."

Reverse

Features the roman numeral 'V' and a torch symbolizing sacrifice and victory, as well as, the coins denomination: 'V' cents meaning 5 cents.
