1939 Canadian $1 Royal Visit Commemorative Silver Dollar Coin (Circulated)

One Dollar Silver - George VI (1937 - 1952)

Canada's second commemorative coin now created for the reverse side of the 1939 silver dollar used to mark the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Canada. The usual means of issuing coins was through the Bank of Canada, but for this special coinage it was decided to make them available through the Post Office as well. Consequently, the mintage of nearly 1.4 million proved to be larger than public demand and between 1939-1945 some had been returned to the Royal Canadian Mint for melting.

Obverse

Coin depicts the design of King George VI with the Latin inscription:
GEORGIVS VI D:G:REX ET IND:IMP: meaning "George VI, by the grace of God, King and Emperor of India."

Reverse

Features the centre block of the Parliament buildings in Ottawa and the Lation phrase: FIDE SVORVM REGNAT meaning "He reigns by the faith of his people."

Royal Canadian Mint issued 1939 $1 Silver Dollar Royal Visit Commemorative coin for circulation in 1939. Item comes in circulated condition. Coin may have some toning, wear and/or field scratches.
