1902 Canadian 5-Cent Small Silver Coin ICCS Graded MS-65

Small 5 Cents - Edward VII (1902 - 1910)

The first 5-cent pieces for the Dominion of Canada were first introduced in 1870, identical to those used for the Province of Canada in 1858. The 1902 designs, made by The Royal Mint (London, England) and the Heaton Mint (indicated by an 'H' mint mark) utilized the unaltered crown and wreath from the second variety Victorian reverse, with the date and modified legend added. The presence of the outmoded St. Edward's crown caused the public to surmise that an error had been made and the 1902 coinage was consequently hoarded.

Obverse

Coin depicts the design of King Edward VII with the Latin inscription:
EDWARDVS VII D.G.REX IMPERATOR meaning "Edward VII, King and Emperor by the grace of God"

Reverse

Features 22 leaves, tied at the bottom by a ribbon, and separated at the top by the Imperial State crown.
