1900 Newfoundland 20-Cent Piece Silver Coin
20 Cents - Victoria (1865 - 1900)
This denomination proved popular with Newfoundlanders and was minted on a regular basis throughout the remainder of Queen Victoria's reign. With the passing years, however, it became increasingly unpopular with Canadians, due to the similarity to their 25-cent piece, and was eventually replaced with a 25-cent coin during World War I.
Obverse
Coin depicts a youthful Queen Victoria with a laurel wreath in her hair. Inscriptions as follows:
"VICTORIA D:G: REG:" meaning "Victoria, by the grace of God, the Queen".
Reverse
Depicts face value and date with encircling design.
Packaging
