In 2010, the United States Mint began issuing 56 quarter-dollar coins featuring designs depicting national parks and other national sites as part of the United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Program.

The second coin of five to be issued in 2010 as part of the US Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters series is the 2010 Yellowstone National Park Quarter. Its issue or beginning circulation date is June 1, 2010.

Located primarily in the state of Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park was created in 1872, making it the first national park in the nation's history. Filled with thermal features including the famous 'Old Faithful Geyser', Yellowstone is also home to abundant wildlife and picturesque scenery.

Design

Obverse:
John Flanagan's portrait of George Washington (modified by William Cousins) is featured on the obverse. Also seen are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "QUARTER DOLLAR," "LIBERTY", "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the mintmark.

Reverse:
The reverse design features the Old Faithful geyser with a mature bull bison in the foreground.  Inscriptions included are "YELLOWSTONE," "WYOMING," "2010" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The coin was both designed and sculpted by Don Everhart.
