2010-D United States 25-Cent Yosemite/California National Park Quarter Coin (Brilliant Uncirculated)

In 2010, the United States Mint began issuing 56 quarter-dollar coins featuring designs depicting national parks and other national sites as part of the United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Program.

The third coin to be issued in 2010 as part of the U.S. Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters Program is the 2010 Yosemite National Park Quarter. It will be released by the United States Mint on July 26, 2010.

The amazing scenery and wildlife is what pushed Congress into creating the Yosemite Grant in 1864, which was signed by President Abraham Lincoln. The grant still left the area under Californian control, which proved to be detrimental to the area, so federal control was regained in 1906. It came under the control of the National Park System in 1916 when that agency was created.

The Yosemite quarter follows the Hot Springs National Park and Yellowstone National Park coins.

Design

Obverse:
John Flanagan's portrait of George Washington (modified by William Cousins) is featured on the obverse. Also seen are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "QUARTER DOLLAR," "LIBERTY", "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the mintmark.

Reverse:
The reverse design features the Old Faithful geyser with a mature bull bison in the foreground.  Inscriptions included are "YELLOWSTONE," "WYOMING," "2010" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The coin was both designed and sculpted by Don Everhart.
