98% Copper Composition

Canadian 1-Cent penny coins are all composed of 98% copper, 0.5% tin and 1.5% zinc. Each coin with a nominal weight of 3.24 grams (1963-1979), 2.8 grams (1980-1981), 2.5 grams (1982-1996).

All 1-Cent penny coins are Royal Canadian Mint issued, will consist of a random assortment between 1960 - 1996 and are in circulated condition.

 

 

Multiple Obverses

1960-1964
Coin depicts the Laureate Bust design of Queen Elizabeth II with the Latin inscription:
ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA meaning "Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, the Queen"

1965-1989
Coin depicts the Tiara portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in right profile, when she was 39 years old with the Latin inscription:
ELIZABETH II D•G•REGINA meaning "Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, the Queen"

1990-1996
The obverse design features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at 64 years old, wearing a new crown, surrounded by the Latin inscription:
"ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA". This was the first effigy to be designed by a Canadian, Dora de Pédery-Hunt.

 

Reverse

The 1-cent features two maple leaves on the same twig known as "Maple Twig". Relatively the exact design as that for George VI.
