Large Cents - Victoria (1861 - 1864)
In 1860, New Brunswick adopted a monetary system consisting of dollars and cents, with the dollar equal to the United States gold dollar.
Obverse
The obverse is the same as the Nova Scotia coins of the same denomination and is one of those used for the British halfpenny.
Coin depicts the design of Queen Victoria, based on a portrait model. Inscriptions as follows:
"VICTORIA D.G. BRITT:REG.F.D:" translated from Latin meaning: Victoria, by the Grace of God, Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith.
Reverse
The reverse design is very similar to that used for the Nova Scotia issue; the wreath differs only in minor respects. The design was adapted from a model by C. Hill.
